Health Resources

The University of Wisconsin Preventative Research Center is looking for study participants

The University of Wisconsin Preventative Research Center is working to help improve birth outcomes in the Black community. Our goal is to better blood pressure management strategies for Black birthing people. We are hoping to gain the perspectives of people who supported a Black birthing person during or after their pregnancy with the goal of making current care models more culturally conscious.

Participants are invited to attend 3 virtual group concept mapping sessions.

SESSION 1 (1hr) - $25

SESSION 2 (2 hrs) - $50

Are You Experiencing Cancer?
The Carbone Cancer Center of UW Health is beginning a cancer education group to support African American and Black individuals who are interested in education, support, and encouragement as they travel this difficult road. The meetings are virtual via Zoom on the 2nd Sunday of each month 5:30pm - 6:30pm. Please log on via the link here. You don't have to suffer alone!

Seeking African American Adults | Faith Based Depression Treatment Class

Dr. Earlise Ward, Psychologist, invites you to participate in free classes to help you learn about depression and healthy coping behaviors.
• Participation includes 13 classes over 3 months.

Community Opportunities

Live-In Position at Shelter from the Storm Ministries

On behalf of Shelter from the Storm Ministries to share an important opportunity within our ministry. We are currently seeking a single woman of faith to fill a live-in position. The live-in role is vital in walking alongside these families, offering daily encouragement, accountability, and a steady presence in the home. This position is non-monetary, but it includes free room and board in a private suite within our facility. The suite features a kitchenette and a private bathroom with a shower, providing a comfortable living space while serving in this ministry role. www.sftsm.org

MTZCO - Calming Computer Jitters Class

Now weekly! Age Friendly Computer Training Class. Grab Your Laptop and join us at Mt. Zion Baptist Church  (2019 Fisher Street, Madison, WI). Every Wednesday 12-2pm. Laptops provided, Transportation available, and lunch served.

Attention Seniors

Need a medical ride, a ride to the food pantry, a ride to the polls, a meal at the Senior Center?  Call the Fitchburg Center at 608-270-4290. **Medical rides require a minimum of 5 business days notice and proof of COVID vaccination. You do not need to be a resident of Fitchburg to utilize services/programming at the center.

 

Other services offered:  social work services, physical fitness, social and emotional well-being, volunteer opportunities, and many others.  The Fitchburg Senior Center is located at 5510 Lacy Rd.

The FSC offers a welcoming diverse environment where seniors from all backgrounds, especially from the African American community, can come together.  Participants may engage in a number of activities and services including social connections, physical activities, opportunities for lifelong learning, access to nutritious meals, transportation services and many other resources.  If you are a Fitchburg resident and need a medical ride, a ride to the food pantry, a ride to the polls or to a meal at the center, call 608-270-4290.
